Tay Ninh is situated 95 km north-west of Ho Chi Minh city and is the original home of the Cao Dai religious sect. It is from here that Cao Daism has spread its influence.
Founded in 1926 by Ngo Minh Chieu, this religion draws its origins from the world's great religions, including Christianity, Buddhism, Taoism, Confucianism, Hinduism, and Islam. Included amongst the many Gods are Joan of Arc, Sun Yat Sen, William Shakespeare, and Victor Hugo - a product of an attempt to create an ideal religion through the fusion of secular and religion philosophies of the East and West. Services are held daily at noon time where the priests dress in colorful costumes to chant their daily prayers. Visitors are permitted to observe from the cathedral balcony. The main ceremonies are held on January 15, July 15 and October every year. During these celebrations thousands of followers will congregate for about three days before the main ceremony begins
